The Roots

I believe that the best form of self expression is through your clothes. I launched this blog because  I wanted to share my knowledge and passion for fashion, sewing, up-cycling and travel.

I learnt to sew when I was six and have not stopped since. My Chinese grandmother taught me that you can make anything you want if you have the passion to learn. She ran her tailoring business from home and has always inspired me to do more with my talent.

I worked as a Stylist for fashion designer house Giorgio Armani in Manchester, UK, for six years and then moved to the high-end department store Selfridges & Co as Head Stylist & Personal Shopper. I was later promoted to Brand Manager for Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry for Ladies Dept. After two years there, I moved to Qatar and cofounded the first talent agency in the country, Trinity Talent Qatar. It is currently the largest talent agency the country.  After 21 years collectively in the fashion and talent industry, I decided to take a break to focus on my family, travel and my first love - sewing.

I create something every day and I love the process and joy it gives me. With fast fashion making a huge impact on the environment, I think that it is important to step back,  appreciate what we already have in our wardrobe, and reuse more. Up-cycling our old clothes means we waste less resources, and the environment has less impact in growing new fibres for new ones. According to Planet Aid, Americans throw away 85% of the clothes that they do not wear. There are many big brands now who have jumped on the up-cycling trend within the last year alone. If I can play my part in a small way to make an impact on the environment, I think you can too.
